Camosun College is committed to a safe, healthy and respectful environment for its students and employees, and recognizes that scented products may negatively impact an individual’s quality of life or health.
For the general population, exposure to scents is not typically problematic. However, from time-to-time, the presence of perfumes and other scented products may affect a person’s comfort. Furthermore, for a very small portion of the general population, scented products may present a health hazard.
For individuals with pre-existing conditions such as chemical sensitivity, asthma or allergies, exposure to some odours can cause a range of ill health effects. Symptoms can vary from upper respiratory problems to various types of reactions including: migraine headaches, anxiety, inability to concentrate, nausea, fatigue and/or skin irritation.
The College strives to minimize the negative effect to individuals from exposure to perfumes, scents and other odours within our facilities. That is why Camosun has implemented the Scent Awareness Program on campus. We ask for your voluntary cooperation in promoting a scent free environment.
