In today's rapidly evolving job market, digital literacy and media production skills are increasingly valuable. The Makerspace Podcasting Studio aims to help current Camosun students and faculty develop these critical competencies in a hands-on environment. Located in Room 141 of the Library and Learning Commons at the Lansdowne campus, the studio is designed to support a wide range of creative projects, including podcasting, narrative storytelling, audiobook readings, panel discussions, and voiceovers.

“Makerspaces empower learners to cultivate new skills, ignite passions, and expand their knowledge through immersive, discovery-driven experiences.”

- Tabitha Lewis, Manager, Innovation & Engagement, Makerspace

“Makerspaces empower learners to cultivate new skills, ignite passions, and expand their knowledge through immersive, discovery-driven experiences,” says Tabitha Lewis, Manager, Innovation & Engagement, Makerspace. “Ultimately, I saw value in creating a resource on campus where individuals can amplify their voices, contribute to meaningful conversations, and share their ideas.”

The new studio offers end-to-end production capabilities with equipment including:

  • A professional editing station featuring a Mac Mini with GarageBand and Logic Pro X.
  • Versatile lighting options including RGB lights with remote control, LED lights and ring lights.
  • USB microphones and audio interface (available for loan).
  • Tripods and mounts for mobile devices and cameras.
  • Green screen for video production.

The Podcast Studio will be accessible to all active Camosun students, faculty, and staff. The Makerspace Production Studio Orientation (available on D2L within the Makerspace Learning Hub) must be completed before you can book a space. The Makerspace team will serve as the first point of contact for troubleshooting, setup support, and training.
