B.C. government announces proof of vaccine

From Sherri Bell, President

Camosun remains committed to a full and safe return to face-to-face learning for all students.

While immunization rates are growing, unfortunately, there is still a challenge with getting everyone vaccinated against COVID-19.

Earlier today, the B.C. government and Provincial Health Officer announced that proof of COVID-19 vaccination will soon be required in B.C. for a range of social, recreational and discretionary events and businesses.

What we know

As of Sept. 13, one dose of vaccine will be required and by Oct. 24 people will need to be fully vaccinated at least seven days after receiving both doses for entry to certain events. The measures will be in place until Jan. 31, 2022, subject to possible extension. The government will be launching a weblink where people can access their vaccine card and save it to their phone, with an alternative for people who cannot access their proof of vaccination online.

The measures apply to post-secondary campuses where relevant. Based on today’s announcement, we know that a vaccine card will be required for our recreation centres, Chargers games and other events outside of the classroom. We expect more details shortly on what is considered discretionary or mandatory in a post-secondary setting.

More to come

We know there is more to come on specific COVID-19 safety requirements for the post-secondary sector this week. On a phone call today with the Provincial Health Officer and representatives from the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training, we were told that the Return-to-Campus guidelines are being updated.

Thank you for your patience, support and understanding.
